DESCRIPTION:

Race results for all NASCAR Winston Cup races between 1975 and 2003, inclusive. The dataset 
includes the numbers of cars, total prize winnings, monthly consumer price index for the month 
of the race, track length, laps completed by the winner, spatial co-ordinates and name of track.

STORY BEHIND DATA:

Author found that the sport provided unique opportunities of introducing statistical methods in classroom 
due to the structure of its competition (set of drivers competing in open competition in repeated races in 
only a few brands of automobiles).

PEDAGOGICAL NOTES:

These data permit statistics students to explore a wide range of descriptive and data management 
applications. Also methods for analyzing categorical and ordinal outcomes may be applied to the data.
