        Information about Minitab

What is Minitab?
Minitab is a very easy to use, and powerful statistical computer package. It is used by colleges, universities and businesses around the world.  The newest version runs only on Windows platforms.

We will use Minitab for our projects - directions will be given in class and on the website.  You can also use Minitab to solve some of the homework problems assigned from the book.  The data sets for most homework problems are included in the data disk that comes with the textbook.

Where to find Minitab:

  • All PC CIRCA labs on campus have it (not Macs): http://labs.circa.ufl.edu/labs.html
  • Buy it for home use at UF bookstore (and around town).  Comes bundled up with the guide MINITAB GUIDE FOR IPS/CD ROM MINITAB. Costs around $60 new.
  • Download (free for 30 days) from Minitab website:  http://www.minitab.com  You need to time it right so don’t download until we are ready for the projects.  They sell the full version of Minitab, but it costs over $1000.
  • Rent it for a semester for $30 from http://www.e-academy.com/minitab

Minitab Versions:
The version of Minitab that you can buy at bookstores is a student version.  It has fewer features than the full-fledged version that you can download from Minitab.com.  For the purposes of our class, the student version is just fine.  In addition, Minitab upgrades their product periodically, so there are several versions going around – right now, versions 14 and 15 seem to be the most common.  They all do pretty much the same thing, but the specific instructions for each one may be a bit different.  I will try to provide instructions that will work with most of the current ones.
